After reading a comment on
's latest journal about books that are great without being in a series, I thought it would be nice to share some books that I think are jems by themselves.
Beauty Queens by Libba Bray
Even though my brain cells slowly depleted at the begining of the book, the author managed to skillfully turn it into an interesting read with a strong message about America's society.
Code Orange by Caroline B. Cooney
This book packs a powerful punch into such a tiny package, delevering an action packed story with a scenario that can possibly happen in the real world today.
Soldier X by Don L. Wufflson
About a German/Russian boy enlisted into the Nazi army and what he goes through after being trapped behind enemy lines.
This book gave me so much insight to the german side of WWII and how civilians of all countries were affected, and even had me crying throughtout the book.
The Unwanteds by Lisa McMann
Even though it is directly aimed toward young teens, it shows that the arts and being creative can be just as powerful as any weapon.
Zombies vs Unicorns by Various Authors
The diversity in the collection of stories in this book makes it worthwile, and some of them could easily be added to and become a book on their own.
I'll add more if I can think of them, but for right now, Happy Reading!
